When Life Gives You Lessons

One key principle to unschooling is learning never stops.

We are always learning and it’s not possible to divide time into “learning time” and “non-learning time.” Everything that goes on around us, everything we hear, see, touch, and experience results in learning of some kind.

So after spending a day at the immigration office to get the proper visa stamps to be able to stay in Bali, we left to find we had a flat tire.

After getting out the spare, we discovered we did not have the proper tools and the rain was beginning to fall. We had a choice to make. We could get uptight and irritable at the situation or we could take a deep breath and take it as an opportunity to learn and grow.

We invited the kids to help solve the problem. One of the kids found an orange cone for the road, another kid found a police officer to help us find the proper tools, and we all worked together to get the job done.

Looking back, we are now thankful for the lesson and the opportunity to grow.
