This takes time and connection, but we find that it also takes a lot of trust and support.

As parents, we have been on a learning journey ourselves, and we are changing the tune of our hearts. If we are really honest, we once belittled our children by not seeing them as a heart and soul, but rather as incapable and lesser little beings.

When our hearts welcomed theirs, we began to take notice of our tone and demeanor towards them. We found ourselves questioning how we, as adults, would respond to the way were were speaking to our children. Immediately, the thought stung, but instead of wallowing in guilt, we took swiftly to change and chose to celebrate the chance to move forward in our relationship.

Though we continue to fail forward, we see the way we treat our children as a big stepping stone to our hearts towards all people. That we may have the same care for one another.
